When: 2000

Where: South Africa

What: Developing Technical Skills

From March 20-24, 2000, we trained 20 engineers and managers from Eskom, a South African utility, on how to implement their own demand-side management (DSM) programs in a more comprehensive and far-reaching way.

The focus of the four-day workshop was on sharing our expertise in implementing demand-side management (DSM) programs at a large scale, giving concrete examples of the methods used to monitor and evaluate DSM programs and the financing of such programs at the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation stages. Our experts also reviewed and commented on the DSM component of Eskom’s Integrated Electricity Planning report, as well as other reports related to DSM such as draft DSM programs that were presented at the workshop.

In addition to this, we facilitated the exchange of expertise on specific focus areas by welcoming the appropriate Eskom employees to meet our member utilities’ experts on-site and engage in discussions on specific focus areas such as DSM program design and power station efficiency.
