When: 2011

Where: Brazil

What: Developing Technical Skills

We supported an E3 (economic, energy, and environmental) assessment of a manufacturing plant in Manaus, Brazil, with the help of member companies, as well as the University of Dayton in Ohio, USA and the University of Pará in Brazil. The assessment was conducted from August 1-5, 2011.

An E3 assessment investigates energy, waste, and productivity savings for manufacturers. With the help of our partners and consultants, a report was drafted to summarize the findings of this technical assessment. Overall, the objective of the energy assessment effort was to identify and evaluate opportunities for energy conservation through visits to industrial facilities. The evaluation process was based on the data gathered during the site visit, and was thereby affected in detail and completeness by on-site limitations at the time. In cases where assessment recommendations (ARs) involving engineering design and capital investment are attractive to the company, it is recommended that the services of a consulting engineering firm be engaged (when in-house expertise is not available) to do detailed engineering design and to estimate implementation costs. As a result, the contents of this report are offered as guidance only.
