Hydro-Quebec is currently commissioning the first islanded microgrid in the province of Québec. The microgrid is powered by both in-front and behind the meter solar generation and energy storage systems. The presentation consists of a project overview including technical and social aspects with an accent on the key lessons learned during the different stages of the project.

About the speakers
David-Olivier Goulet, Project Engineer – Integration of New Technologies, Hydro-Québec Distribution
David-Olivier Goulet is part of the Hydro-Québec team since 2017. Most of his efforts are devoted to the Lac-Mégantic microgrid project for which he works as a project engineer. In addition, David-Olivier also helps identifying new initiatives and conducts opportunity studies for the integration of new technologies team. His professional experience started with an energy efficiency firm where he worked as a project manager simultaneously leading several energy effiency projects in different establishments. Mr. Goulet has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) as well as a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Quebec in Montreal (ESG-UQAM).
Patrick Martineau, Microgrid Team Manager – Integration of New Technologies, Hydro-Québec Distribution
Patrick joined the Integration of New Technologies division in 2018 as a project engineer for the design and commissioning of a microgrid in Lac-Mégantic. He is also responsible for the microgrid project in Magdalen Islands and he actively contributes to other projects and technological innovation at Hydro-Quebec. During the 10 years he has supported Hydro-Quebec customers for the efficient use of energy, he has developed a good knowledge of their needs. Before joining Hydro-Quebec, he worked in product development. His numerous patents demonstrate his keen interest in innovation. Beyond technological innovation, it values more than anything the synergy with its collaborators in order to develop solutions adapted to present and future needs.
